Indo-Pacific Sea Star 飛白楓海星 Archaster typicus
Also known as a 'sand star' or 'sand sifter' this is an atypical starfish in that it is not a carnivore but a detritivore, engulfing the sand or mud and digesting the organic matter there within. The maximum size of this starfish is about 15cm across the arms. All other Hong Kong species of starfish are found out at sea and rarely on the shore.
