A deciduous tree with pinnate leaves. 7-15 metres high. Small red flowers in April.
Mango 杧果 Mangifera indica
Evergreen tree, 10-20 metres high.
Sumac 鹽膚木 Rhus chinensis
Distinguished from the other type of sumac by not having red stems. Deciduous shrubs or small trees, 2-5 metres tall. Flowering in October.
Sumac 白背鹽膚木 Rhus hypoleuca
Distinguished from the other type of sumac by the red stems. Flowering in August, fruiting in September-October.
Wax Tree 木蠟樹 Toxicodendron succedaneum
This tree has a reputation for provoking redness and itching. It does contain a sap which is a skin irritant. The skin of the fruits contains a substance that can be made into candles, hence the name. It is also sometimes known as 'Splash-of-Red' due to its bright red leaves in winter. Flowering September-October.
